serendipity
Imagine my delight .... I was walking on my treadmill reading a Parenting magazine and suddenly there was my favorite word... in PRINT.... it is such a rare word, that it doesn't show up very often in print. And believe me I smiled & read the paragraph again to make sure I had read it!
SERENDIPITY -(n) an aptitude for making desirable discoveries by accident (Dictionary.com Unabridged). It is a magical word... thought to come from Horace Walpole in a letter he wrote about 3 princes who sailed to far away lands and quite accidentially discovered things they were not looking for. I love this word.... have it tattooed on my foot. I have loved it for many years....
When I was little mom read or got us to read the SERENDIPITY BOOKS. It seems today few have heard of these books. The books tell tales of fanciful magical creatures in far-away lands and are brightly illustrated but most importantly they have a message of some sort (be friendly, we all have feelings, ugly is beauty). Somewhere along the way I collected the books. And right now I can tell you that they are in a box in the basement waiting for a little boy to get past the eating book stage.... If you care to learn more about the books and see a list of them check out http://www.stephencosgrove.com/books.htm
And because I love the books and the dragon so much I have it tattooed on my foot also. Serendipity the dragon was my first tattoo when I was 18 years old. A big pink thing that was hard to hide.... and I've loved it ever since... never looked back with regret on a tattoo!
SERENDIPITY POTS is my "pottery shop" name. Someday perhaps it really will be... ! I discovered pottery accidentally and I sit down at my wheel now with no preconceived intention of what it will be... perhaps if I had some notions I'd be better... but I love being dirty... and have just got dirt on the keyboard! So fortunate in my discoveries check out my stuff either on facebook or etsy and see what you think!
Let me just make a note for my sister...I bought the Original serendipity book at a school book fair then mom kept adding to them...you are welcome sister for the delight!
