Surfside Club ~ Omaha, NE

Today we met Dale & Pat at a farmers market. (They are Doug's aunt & uncle). It was a nice market in an old flour mill. Clever. The upstairs had an art installation that was INTERESTING. If you've ever flown into MidWay airport in Chicago, you've seen an installation that has little planes or birds that hang from the ceiling to make the shape of the big bird. The mill today had a ceramic artist that made HUNDREDS of 4 inch horses, tied red thread onto them & hung them from the ceiling as if they were a wild herd running together. It was interesting. I wondered how long it took to make all the horses... and why the hell didn't I think of it....
When we were on the way out of mill, we spoke to an odd woman. She "managed" the mill. AND she was herself an artist. She made jewlery & incorporated the EYES of dead animals from a taxidermy place. Her art was called EYECONS. I am all for expression BUT SERIOUSLY....
Espen got to see a horse up close for the first time.... he was NOT to excited about that. But he didn't scream. He touched the darn animal.

We all then went to Surfside Club on the Missouri River. Interesting to say the least. The menu included 2 items. YES I said 2. Fried Catfish (the whole thing minus the head) and fried chicken (leg & thigh). Each comes with fries & slaw. They bring the table corn fritters with honey. They serve the food on paper plates with plastic forks. It is not a cheap place to eat. The unique thing is to sit on the patio BUT during the hottest dam day ever THAT was not even an option for us. The waitress made me nervous to eat there because she was quite gruff but she warmed up & held Espen even. The place had many patrons who were happy to have only 2 food choices. The food was good. Those that got the catfish were not disappointed. I was not excited about the WHOLE fish so I had the chicken. Not bad but got a stomach ache... could be because I ate really fast & didn't have enough water today..... As we were nearing the end of our meal I saw something small out of the corner of my eye. I VERY quickly focused on what it was because I thought it was a tiny mouse. And I was immediately prepared to LEAVE. But to my complete surprise it was a little frog. It hopped around. I pointed it out. He headed to the bar & I followed it. I said to the old bartender... "you have a little frog down there, want me to catch it?" He said "sure!". So with ONE HAND in ONE GRAB I had that little frog. I walked him calmly outside & set him free. Walked in, washed my hands & continued my lunch. A FROG. Anders suggested they also include frog legs on the menu!!!! THAT cracked me up!! So if you want some experience, come visit us, go to Surfside Club & see what you may get!!

And now we are sitting on the couch... Anders, Doug & I watching FOOTBALL. Yes sure... the season has started. Lucky Espen is already asleep.... I wish I were!!
