September 27 ~ 2011 ~~ Low Riders
While in Dodge City recently, we were at the park and across the park was a low rider competition of sorts. I thought we should of course go see it. Nothing strange about being 2 white people with a darker skinned child walking straight into the midst of an Hispanic low rider competition! It was fun. The music was not appropriate but I'm old.. I don't appreciate vulgar rap music around little people. The cars were really entertaining. The people fun to watch. And we were NOT the strangest site to see.... there were 2 men on horseback that were there too.... Espen sat on Anders shoulders clapping & dancing and watching the cars and people.
Dodge City Kansas is one of those places that just let people be... be in the space you are in.. no one bothers you or judges you... it is strange to find it there in the middle of no place. The population is pretty diverse. It is a place Espen & I feel comfortable & welcome in. Strange... We went to an art guild which was next to a huge Mexican clothing & boot store. The art guild was having an opening reception and we had wine & cookies. The clothing store had music & neat things to look at. I could of gotten for example matching boots & shirts for Anders & Espen & Doug... (we didn't but could have!). The farmers market had a couple old men (not sure how they drove into town), an Indian woman, a Menonite & a few other folks all selling their produce & homemade goodies. And all we took home was a gourd! The point being it is just a hodge podge town.
I can tell you for certain... Espen is getting exposed to lots of neat things... ! And the next low rider show we see, we'll be stopping... he found it as cool as mommy did!!
