GingerHead snowmen
I first heard about pinterest from some mommy blog I was reading. Then alot of friends were commenting on it. So I checked it out & honestly I find it fascinating. Yet I also find it maddening. I mostly access it from my phone and it seems as if the app is always having problems which makes me flustered. It is a good time killer when nap or bedtime occurs or when we are playing at the burger king playground! Today however let me tell you about a recipe I found there... for the cutest darn cookies ever...
It started out as a cute idea, one I felt I could try... and I had to search out some things I don't just have such as molassas... Finally had all the ingredients for the cookies, mixed it up and let it sit overnight... Then I looked at the frosting recipe... and to my surprise I had to go get another ingredient I have never used before... Merigune powder... and to my wonder I could not find it. Doug looked at 2 stores to be told it was a special item and to try a craft or baking store... UGH.. but what we could find was egg white powder... so after some googling I decided to use it instead of the other...
And finally, last night, after 3 days and some headaches, I have finished.... I didn't frost the whole mess of them because that was SUPER time consuming... but I did enough to feel accomplished! And they are super cute & tasty...
My point however is that while we can find groovy fun things to make & try on pinterest... sometimes these folks are PROFESSIONAL bakers and have access to odd items and perhaps the daylight hours to consturct these contraptions! My cookies are fantastic, some silly looking, nothing like the photos! So then next time I find some neat photo of something uber cool I want to make... I may reconsider!!
And if you want to see the ones I followed.. and the recipe... here it is: http://www.bakerella.com/gingerbreads-heads/
Just be warned... you will have to go to the store!!

I might have to try these. Joshua totally LOVES snowmen. These came out pretty darn cute! Great Job. Oh and as someone mentioned on FB, you can probably get the meringue powder in the Wilton isle at Hobby Lobby. Also, I have access to a restaurant supply store that is awesome if you ever know in advance that you need something. I can ship it to you.
ReplyDeleteI can add that the cookies are FANTASTIC!! They are still soft a week later... and look awesome!! Espen LOVES them... and although they were an incredible amount of work, it was worth it!! I would do it again!
