Summer Vacation

Our summer vacation was perfect!  However, for the last 7 days I was less than perfect.  We were not perfect!  Our time was not planned.  The only thing we planned was the reservation for the room.  We stayed up late.  Ate when we were hungry.  Ordered wildly expensive giant food items.  Laughed hysterically.  Swam until our skin was wrinkled.  Surfed the waves.  Stayed in the sun for way too long.  Fished by the light of the moon.  We visited old friends and made new ones.  I did not comb my hair most days, wear make up or real clothes if we are being honest (a swim suit most of the time).  I did not stress about teeth brushing or retainers.  We sat, we walked, we skated, we ran.  We shopped and bought weirdly useful things.  We watched fireworks on the beach, saw a giant sea turtle, caught a blue crab with a net and a hot dog.  We talked.  We ate a lot of fish and pizza.  We played trivia in a pub drinking dark beer with our kid who randomly helps with odd facts (we did not come in last).  We sat watching the sea while we read books.  We laid on the pier.  We watched the boats and listened to the music.  We drank coffee and ate donuts at all hours!  We had random people take a picture of our family and it is flawed in 50 ways but it is us.

Our beach vacation was full of moments and memories.  We had the best time.  We engaged with each other and recharged our souls in the sand and surf.  Today I put away all the beach things and finished the laundry.  The sand may be out of my shorts but the memories are etched on my heart.
