Hair Salon Troubles

I have lived in the great state of Nebraska for going on 3 winters now and I have yet to find a hair salon I belong with.  I had a GREAT salon in Lansing, Illinois (THE CHOP SHOP AND URBAN RETREAT) and a fantastic person doing not just my hair.... Tina O'Keefe listened, laughed, shared some of the successes and failures.  She was there when we adopted Espen. She was a friend.  Tina met all my exchange kids and helped them feel beautiful or cute or heard.  They put up with my habitual lateness.  She made me feel like a woman should!

The Chop Shop was a great place. Relaxed. Comfortable.  Honest.  Affordable.  Offered beer, wine, coffe, meta or water to clients.  Celebrated holidays & milestones of the community.  The staff were all fantastic!  So that is what I search for in Omaha.

Well I have given it the old girl scout try..... I have tried 5 salons here.  Yes that's right FIVE.  The first, TEXTURE, was to impersonal & the payments were done in a strange fashion.  After 3 visits & the same stylist & receptionist didn't remember anything about me it was time to go.  Each visit was like a new experience for them. I needed retention.

Next I went to CAPEHART SALON.  One visit.  The stylist was fascinating to me yet awkward.  I periodically take Espen with me.  There are many reasons for that and this particular day he was in the stroller having a snack.  The other stylists & customers used the most filthy language that I was uncomfortable.  No place for me or my child.  Even if the stylist had some potential. Because there is always some chance that I will have my son with me.

Next I tried MAJESTIX. And I liked them!  The receptionist remembered me from visit to visit.  She was great with names & life details.  The stylist was great.  I stayed for awhile.  But it was a salon that felt like one my mother-in-law would frequent, not me.  Smooth jazz played.  Old women in the chairs.  But I liked Jody and she had retention and good conversation.

When SEDUIRE opened I thought why not give it a shot. So I jumped in for a cut.  And to my utter surprise the manager was a cross dresser wearing the highest heels ever!  He was interesting!  The young stylist was great but young.  I thought I might go back but then learned that the manager/owner had previously been in trouble with the federal government.  Well that is o good for the wife of a federal employee!  So I went back to MAJESTIX.

Then I made n appointment and Jody was gone.  She had been replaced by someone else.  I tried.  And I did not like the way it felt.  I did not like her.  I guess I am picky. So I was in search again.

Found Jo at BANGS. Clever group of ladies.  Fun.  Jo was great.  And I loved the cut!  I set another appointment for color and was feeling pretty good.  I called Friday to reschedule and the phone was answered by a young lady announcing it was SIRENS.  So I told her I had appointment with Jo and needed to reschedule.  I was put on old briefly to be greater by pleasant man who told me BANGS had suddenly closed.  The stylists were given 12 hours to leave.  And it was no longer in business.  Three of the stylists had gone to SIRENS and the phones had been forwarded.  No Jo had not gone, she was no longer doing hair.  They were happy to assist me & take care of my needs.  So I made an appointment. It was for tonight.  And I had been tempted to blow it off & look some more.  But then dedcided to go.

My husband didn't come home.  I got tied up with Espen and forgot to call to cancel & they called me.  Nice and made good impression on me.  I rescheduled for next week.  So I hope I like it.  It is not in my circle of travel. But I need a salon home.  I need some human in some remote relationship to remember some small things about me.  I need to feel like I can be a beautiful woman even of for only an hour!

If I don't like it I will just keep searching.  Some months I just want to drive back to Lansing and let Tina have a chance to set my head right!
