Perfect Pots
Making pots is the most relaxing thing.... And awesome! It is awesome to feel the wet clay and the texture and temperature. It is amazing to clear the brain of all thought and let the clay take some shape.
Rarely do I listen to music in the studio. 99% of the time I am alone with my thoughts. And the clay requires my concentration and I am able to just keep a quiet mind and place in my soul. The sound is consistent. The feel is routine. The mess is not to be worried about. It is a quiet spot.
I once took a quilting class with an amazing quilter... the desire to quilt is not mine but her words of wisdom stick with me always... nothing is perfect in this world except God. So I don't try to make perfect pots. I don't strive for perfect glazes. I don't start off with a master plan. I simply let go of my stress and anxiety and frustration and let that clay transform itself and my mood into something different. And I am as perfect as I am intended to be.
Hopefully each of us can find the thing that makes us feel perfect.... we can find peace in a space and time so that we can be refreshed to continue on. That is what pottery does for me... helps me move forward and not feel broken....
