The DMV

I am one of the few who go into the DMV with nothing but time.  I never try to rush in and out.  I also always pack my extra patience and SMILE!  The folks who work at the DMV are just doing the job - in my mind, they are no different then the folks working at a grocery or restaurant.

In 2010, when we first moved here I met someone at the DMV.  Kellie & I shared lunches and good memories for the past 4 years.  She has gotten out of Nebraska (lucky girl) and is missed.  Had we not been at the DMV at that exact moment, our lives would not have crossed.

So the fact that strange things happen to me at the DMV should be noted!

Last week I had to go get tags for the new truck.  I had all my paperwork in order.  I had time.  I was not in a hurry!  There was NO line!  Oh joy I secretly thought, this will be so fast and I can get something else done.

The computer at the DMV was slow and the gal was doing a ton of button pushing.  I was having idle chit chat with her about her earrings (she got them from Etsy, they were made from soda cans) and her children make holiday shopping a drag.  She finally had a total for me and I wrote the check.  She handed me the pink registration and I noticed the address was wrong.  I kindly asked if she could change that before I left (still no line so I was not worried about angry folks behind me).

NO CRAP.... the next thing that happened only happens to me..... the gal could not do the address change alone.  She had to call over her supervisor.  This woman, also very kind, apologized but noted that the pink registration was INCORRECTLY done.  My copy had no information on it, that it appeared that I did not have a truck, or a need to pay.  Which made me laugh ~ the truck was sitting outside ~ I drive it like I stole it, and perhaps I did!

So the supervisor takes over.  She has to call the state of Nebraska who then has to call the dealership.  WHAT THE WHAT?????  I am standing there listening and answering questions as needed about the type of truck, the date of purchase, etc.... Finally it is all clear ~ we did purchase the truck, there was a glitch!

To my bewilderment, the supervisor says "Unfortunately, you owe more then we collected (of course I do).  Did you want to write two checks or void this one and only write one? (how about neither and I just leave?)."  I was still smiling with them and being friendly.  They deserve that.

ALL I WANTED TO DO WAS CHANGE THE FLIPPING ADDRESS!

I paid with one check.  They changed the address.  The title/tags for the new truck were $500 more then I expected.  My registration now is complete so if I get pulled over I am not driving a stolen, unregistered truck.  Forty five minutes of my life at the DMV.

As I was leaving I wished the gals a Merry Christmas and a good day.... because honestly, it was not their mistake or decision.  They were just doing their job!

When I called Doug (as soon as I was in the parking lot) he laughed and said "This stuff happens to YOU... why????".  ~ I have no IDEA!!  I'm gifted like this!
