Trying times
Well we are all in Dallas! It is a good reminder to me that I love the "dryer" heat here, the southern charm and the beauty of the south. I would love to keep driving south BUT with a baby who has had a lot of patience traveling, I don't think we should go much farther south... we have to go back north eventually!
With a 19 year old and a 15 month old, it is sometimes a challenge to find something entertaining for everyone BUT yesterday we went to the Dallas Aquaruim. And it was not at all what I expected but super nice and we had alot of fun! Lunch - not so fun. Espen is at that age where sitting still in a high chair for LONG meals is NOT going to happen. While I believe it is important to take him to nice places, it is a challenge for him to be still for so long. So he had reached his limit just as my salad arrived. So unfortunately, I left Anders to eat alone & have my lunch boxed up and I took my little son outside. It is hard not to feel selfish when that happens.
We 4 decided to try a very local Mexican place for dinner. It was a real crack up that there were NO people in there and that they wait staff was sort of surprised to see us as we are not the typical race that frequents the place. So we ordered and the food eventually arrived. And again Espen had reached his limit. He was hungry but not willing to sit SO mommy took him to the car. My food was boxed up again. I cried. I felt sorry for myself. I was mad. Not mad at Espen but mad because I had suggested we get take out so that we didn't have to try to sit for so long again. My idea was not favored so I was outside in the 104 degree weather, hungry with a hungry son. I cried. I was certain that there was not a parent in the world that had been in my shoes..... Anders came out to relieve me after he ate and I went in and drank a beer. Then we went to a park.
This park is close to the hotel. We walked there 2 nights ago. So we have been 2 times now. We are the only white folks who have been to the park. We are the only English speaking people there. I think it is the funniest thing ever. While some in our party are vigilant, I am just having a nice evening with my boys and playing with the baby on the slides, swings and bars. The park is a VERY busy place. There are people selling Mexican candy, ice cream & durros. I think the park is the funniest part of our vacation so far!
So today we are all off to see the JFK memorial and the RED BULL can exhibit at the Galleria. Should be a fun day!!
