What I know about myself is that there are days when there is MUCH to MUCH external stimulus and it drives me INSANE..... today was one of those days. After being awakened just to early, I showered with Espen because he just was presistent. Then we got dressed & refused breakfast. We left at about 9 for Whole Foods. Espen snacked his way through & smiled at everyone. He high fived a grandfatherly man whom I kept passing. When we left & were getting in the car seat I noticed Espen was WET. He had on a pull-up and I was concerned that I had pulled it up & hadn't put him all the way in it (I did that the other day). It was freezing so to cold to check out the situation outside. I OF COURSE did not have extra pants but did have more diapers. So we buckled up, wet, and went to Gymboree. Well to my surprise the pull-up was dry & he was inside it so I guess it was the juice of something he ate!!
Gymboree was a grand time. Espen participated with the group & tried to convince the leader that he could blow the bubbles by telling her REPEATEDLY "bubbles i do it". He also pushed a kid down, hugged some, and climbed up everything he could get up! It went well until these moms were discussing the desire or lack of desire for more children & one started to go ON & ON & ON about being pro-life & that is the reason she would adopt. Since I was a part of the conversation I said that I had adopted & I was pro-choice. Well that ended the conversation and BAM that was that... so I smiled sweetly & wished them a good week!! Me & my big mouth... being pro-life is not a reason to adopt (neither is being pro-choice really).... but don't take away the choices. (MY opinion....love me or hate me!)
So then we left Gymboree & headed home to get our boarder who we had to take to the hospital for his surgery on the arm. I grabbed Espen a cheeseburger & fries from McDonald's (which he ate the whole darn thing - remember he had no breakfast!!). I myself did not eat... was frazzled & tired. We took the youth to the hospital and the drive made me teary.... Espen sat in the back seat saying the young man's name OVER & OVER & OVER and NOT ONE SINGLE TIME DID THE YOUNG MAN RESPOND. He had his iPod in for awhile. I talked to Espen and finally he fell asleep. How rude does one have to be?? At the hospital Espen & I stayed until I couldn't take it anymore... about 1.5 hours... then I had an upset toddler who had not napped who had been in car or hospital for 3 hours... he was upset AND I was grouchy with the condesending and rude behavior of the young man to the staff who were caring for him. It was sort of embarrassing. Perhaps it was nerves or his lame attempt to be funny. Whatever it was if Espen EVER acts that way towards people I will be extremely upset. It is my goal, my determined duty to raise a kind young man who shows compassion & sincerity towards all others. If I fail it will be the end of me.
I still had not eaten. And needed to swing by grocery store. (Can't get everything at one store).
Sonic called my name... corn dog, tots & large cherry vanilla dr pepper... Good thing I got 2 corn dogs because my cute son ate one of them... We managed then to stop and get our few items at the store. Espen loves the lady who cuts & gives him fruit. So we visited her twice for orange slices. She is lovely. And the whole food section lady who lets us steal apricots - we love her too! And finally we were on the way home. The sun was shiny and we were having some fun noticing how it made our eyes close & we saw some airplanes to look at.
Home however meant that mommy had to shovel the drive & sidewalks at lightening speed before little fingers got frozen. I did it. Then we rushed in for a milk and a nap (THAT DID NOT HAPPEN). Nap was delayed because Espen has figured out how to go "Poop" in the toliet & he does it... so when he asks I put him there... seems like a fun game!! But I put him in the bed for awhile after 2 poop tries. Then I put all the food away, let the dogs out and went to the bathroom before Hannah came over to watch Espen while I went in my studio!!!! OH YES I DID...
And our young man DID not make it home tonight. He came out of surgery ok but complained about the intense pain (gee ya think the 8 hours you spent at the gym yesterday had anything to do with that?). So Doug sat up there waiting until 7:30pm, visited him a few minutes (because we are nice like that) and came home & ate with me. And now I'm tired!! While I was waiting for Doug to get home, I made banana bread, cleaned the kitchen & my studio and discovered the MOST disgusting hockey bag sitting in the dining room. It was HORRIBLE smelling when I opened it. So I hung it all up in the garage... he should be ashamed of his gear...
So goodnight my friends.... I have to go get the boarder sometime tomorrow.... and talk to his mom again (yep did that a few times today too). And hopefully I will not have as much crazy stimulation and can be a little happier in general and not as short with my baby... he deserves a happy mommy!!
