March 4 ~ 2011

Well today I called Doug crying like some crazy woman. I was upstairs putting down the bags of food we just brought home. Espen wouldn't let me take his coat off & I didn't feel up for a chase just to get it off so I left him downstairs. Not minutes after I put the bags down, freed my hands, removed my coat did I hear GLASS shattering & silence... I raced down the stairs & Espen had managed to break the middle side glass of my china cabinet and his little arm & face were in the glass & shards. OH I was so frightened... His little coat (thank goodness I got a good lined Columbia one) saved him... There was a box between the cabinet & wall that he could stand on to reach the back side of the desk where he saw some colorful markers. He had gotten one, taken the lid off & scribbled on my wall before he fell face/arm into the cabinet. I hugged him close and cried. Then called Doug. It was crazy...

We ate some lunch, read a few books, took a nap. After nap it was deemed to be to cold for mommy to want to go outside so we did some inside things. About 5 I was getting some food ready for Espen & he was playing in the silverware drawer (he does so frequently). I was literally 2 feet or so from him and CRASH the drawer fell to the floor... he pulled it out & managed to bend OFF one of the under braces... I was not on phone or computer and was cutting up some grapes. He is slippery fast. So I put Espen in time out, the drawer on the table & cried.

I haven't had a 2 year old in my house before... but mine is busy, curious, eager to do it all, strong & fearless. The fearless little boy decided to turn over the plastic laundry basket today & JUMP off of it.. (good news is he can count to 3 so you know when he jumps). He just does these things and I wonder if he is like other 2 year olds.

It is exhausting some days... But in the last 2 days we haven't had much outdoor or big motor play and he needs that... so hopefully tomorrow daddy will help him get some.

And Sunday we are all home to move some things around for kid-proofing. Gotta make it a little bit safer around here...
