Today was a gymboree day. It was packed with moms & tots. I go to try to help with social skills & to teach participation. Today I was grossly annoyed with the moms all sitting around socializing with each other while their children ran around & rarely participated. It is really hard to get my little guy to focus if everyone else is crazed. So I switched us to the Tuesday class. It supposedly has fewer kids so we'll see how it goes. Let me suggest that I am annoyed because not a single mom wants to socialize with me. It is strange really. There is one who I speak with and she is kind (she is the young nanny) and we've had a play date. She is a good & nice person who was there today & yes indeed we spoke briefly and then I was just flustered because she is fortunate to be going to NY for labor day and I have a jealous streak! And she believes as I do... gymboree is a time for learning & fun... so we get our little guys to participate & that cuts our social time... We go to zoo or park so we can visit. So the rest of the mom's clustered & conversed. I often wonder about this. I am open & friendly. I have tried several times to engage in their talk. I've even tried to go to the "outings" with them. The biggest difference is where we live.... they live closer to Omaha & we do not... otherwise the only other difference is the color of Espen's skin... and it should not matter one bit... so today I was just annoyed enough by the petty converstations and lack of "control" that I switched us to the other class. We can try again and see if both of us can make a friend... I try my hardest and best to be a good mom & teach Espen manners & social skills and to be a good role model I have to also work at being social with mom's.
I've learned to keep my political, religious, abortion, football beliefs all to myself so as to not put distance between me & them. I even disregard my education so as to not appear 'better' than any one of them. I don't discuss husbands or what brought us to Omaha. There is plenty other stuff to talk about.... this is one weird state...
