September 8 ~ 2011 ~~ LOST shoe

After a debate this morning about what we should do today and an argument with the husband about listening while watching TV, I decided to take Espen to the zoo and powerwalk it then to let him wander.  So we made a quick trip to Target for a lunchable snack & hair product for daddy then off we went.

The Omaha zoo is HILLY to say the least.  They have an upcoming 1 or 5 mile run/walk that I intend to register for.  I powerwalked the zoo today in 20 minutes.  I was hauling butt.  I passed one older woman with her companion in a motorized wheelchair & her comment was "I should get a baby doll & stroller & walk as fast as that young lady"... I slowed & said she could use mine!!  She cracked UP!  Needless to say it was a great walk... now 1 or 5 miles... hhhmmmmm...

our lost little shoe...
Espen was so good for the walk that his pleas to ride the skyfari were answered & I rode it with him again.  It is NOT my favorite thing to do with him.  We are up over the exhibits & often he is wiggly!  (Imagine that!).  But we did it.  We had some crackers we dropped over the koi pond and that was great fun.  Then almost at the end, we were over the giraffe enclosure & he kicked off his Saucony tennis shoe... and he said "UH OH mommy shoe fell"... WHAT... yes indeed it did... so I had a child with a missing shoe.  We reported it & completed the little lost form.  The odds of getting a call are slim I'd say.  Then we stopped near the aquairum & had lunch... he cracks me & everyone up.  He had a little audience and decided to run and dance with his one shoed little self.  In between dancing & running I did get him to eat lunch.  Then we came home.  Can't walk the zoo or play on the playground if you only have on one shoe.

And just for the record... because it is still bugging me.... when I talk, it is typical for someone to be watching TV & for me to not get eye contact... and it has bothered me for YEARS... but I talk anyway and hope part of what I'm saying is heard.  The alternative is I am silent and not heard either.  This morning, I was glancing at the TV, at Espen & listening to what was being said & he just stopped talking & said he couldn't talk when I was watching TV...and that was that... end of conversation.  WHAT... so I was and still am, just a tiny bit annoyed...I don't know how else to describe my hurt & frustration & feeling of a double standard....
