valas pumpkin patch
Even though I am absolutely exhausted from staying up late and getting up early (4am), today we went on an adventure. Nearly everyday is some sort of adventure for us. None the less ... I found this "community" of Omaha Moms online and I joined. (Find them at http://www.myomahamommies.com/). There is even a Bellevue group and all kinds of 'support', humor & events. They planned an outing today to Valas Pumpkin Patch. Although we've already been to a pumpkin patch, I felt inclined to go and see if we could meet some people. The day cost me about $40... that includes admission, pony ride, lunch and of course kettle corn (Espen just can't pass up popcorn!!).
We chatted with some lovely ladies before we went into the patch and then pretty much everyone went their own ways. Some were grouped in little groups. I had been chatting with a couple moms with kids before we all went to the restroom and then I lost track of them. I was busy keeping track of the little man! Espen and I were alone for much of the time. Didn't especially matter to me; I am sort of used to it. We explored and discovered pony rides, trikes to ride, a playground (horrible design), giant bouncy pillows and a corn pit (my personal fav). There were also tractors to play on, slides to go down, sand to build in and lots to see. We rode the train. We watched the pig races. We played on a pirate ship. We fed the goats and camel and llama. It was quite a time. Then as we were finishing lunch the ladies I had started off with came up and we call chatted some more. They were quite kind and I enjoyed talking to them. They do a book club. I like reading so I will look that up on the event page and see if I can go.
I am seriously trying my best to find some people we can see on occasion. Seems like a good idea!! It is the hardest thing to do it seems. There is one thing to find friends through work but quite another to find them through your kids activities. Work people are all linked by a common bond. Two year olds don't have much in common yet! Struggle through this phase we shall do... and appreciate and enjoy my family and the company I keep!!
After all.... isn't it a lesson in enjoying the moment... each and every one of them. And I can absolutely enjoy the little moments with Espen... There was not a moment today when I rushed him to anything. I let him lead the way and do what he wanted. And if he wanted mommy to sit down in a pile of sand to build a sandcastle, it is what we did.... We just take our time and enjoy the little moments. So whether or not we make friends in Nebraska, we will learn our lessons ... and we will just enjoy what we have right now....
