Elevator
I am quite certain that at this point, if you read this you think I am crazy! I break things and we have lots of fun but we also have our share of DRAMA! This is my warning of the month....
I recently traveled with my son to assist our family with the estate of a beloved aunt. This travel took us across several states and took 2 days to arrive at our destination. So we stayed overnight in a Hilton. Now it most likely would not matter what hotel or what state. My only reason for mentioning the name was to note that this was not a shady place!
We checked in and got our backpacks. We travel light & each carried what we needed in a backpack! He had his lovey moose & his little backpack and a rock he found. I had my purse & backpack. We were on the 4th floor so we set up in the elevator. He has ridden in them many times and loves to push the buttons. Who doesn't! So he pressed #4 and we waited. We were talking & he was being so good! I stepped out of the elevator on the 4th floor & turned to grab his hand AS THE DOORS CLOSED TRAPPING MY 2 YEAR OLD ALONE INSIDE. I immediately pressed the call button to get the door open again to no avail.
My panic mode was in high gear when I heard the elevator start to descend with my precious little boy. I had no idea where it would stop. So I got in the other elevator which had at this point gotten to the 4th floor. I went to the 3rd floor... no child. I went to the lobby... no child. I was FRIGHTENED beyond measure. I was standing in the lobby crying at the elevator and heard screams from above me in the elevator shaft... "MOMMY MOMMY WHERE ARE YOU".... so I jumped in the elevator again and went to the 2nd floor... and there I found my little boy walking around the hall crying wearing his little backpack. His screams had not brought a single person out of their rooms. His cries had not made anyone curious enough to open a door & see what in the hell was happening. My cries in the lobby about my son being gone had elicited no response from even the staff.
I was relieved & saddened by the lack of attention anyone paid to either of us. Is this really the world we live in? So the next time we rode the elevator, he held my hand & we exited the elevator together. And when he asked me what the RED alarm button was I told him next time he was in the elevator all alone, to push that button and someone would help him find mommy. (Hopefully that works!).
So next time you ride in an elevator, hold the hand of the little person because those doors can close really fast and you will be instantly separated... and it brings a mother to the worst spot....
