Broken TOE
A week ago I was involved in a freak accident that left my toe a smashed mess. It involved a bar stool, my son & the ceramic floor of the kitchen. In an attempt to save Espen from crashing to the floor I stepped into a falling metal bar stool. My son fell anyway but quickly reported I'M OK. The stool crashed into my right foot. Immediately I knew something was terribly wrong. I went down in a crying heap in excruciating pain. The middle middle toe was smashed. And there is nothing that can be done for a broken toe so of course I did not go to the doctor!
Then 3 days later while trying to convince me he needed a Popsicle, Espen stomped on it. Just in wrong place at that moment, but he hit it square on... I was on the floor again...
The swelling has gone down. The bleeding has stopped. It is not entirely broken (may not have a broken bone at all). The end, the last inch of my toe is messed up so badly that wearing shoes or walking normal causes me nauseating pain. It is slowing me down so far that I'm miserable. I try not to complain so generally no one remembers I'm "injured". But seriously.... I had a run this weekend I wanted to do, another in 2 weeks and needed to get into training mode for the warrior dash (which I will be doing even if I have to limp through!).
So if you see me limping please don't stomp on my right foot.... I just may punch you!
********************************* An update ************************
I infact did go to the doctor..... because of a spreading infection in the blasted toe. After an x-ray it was confirmed that the last bones in that middle toe were smashed and fractured. I was admonished for putting tennis shoes on and told I had to keep it buddy wrapped with the middle toe for 6-8 weeks in order for it to heal. I am also taking an antibiotic to clear up the infection...
I can tell you at this point in 5 weeks I will be on the WARRIOR DASH COURSE.... I may have to limp through it and wrap my foot for 6 more weeks but I am going to do it...
