Make a plan
Yesterday I had coffee with a neighbor. Her great words of wisdom... don't just complain about where you are... make a plan and do something about it.
Pretty great advice. And good for anyone in any situation. If we just let the money or the fear of failure or uncertainty keep us back we may never get to that goal or destination. In her mind it doesn't matter if it is travel, a great job, a fancy expensive purchase or something else. Make a plan and do it.
Five years ago, I decided it was in my best interest to be a stay at home mom. And every day I figure out how that will work. It is not always easy but we manage to make it happen. It is the best thing for Espen too.
Last year we committed to a family vacation every year. Might not be the most exciting of destinations but time together as the 3 of us is important. Time without house responsibilities. Time away from everything we know. To a place we are strangers and can just rely on each other. Our plans are being made for this year and we will return to a place that we love. While we are not invisible there, we know people, we can be together and let the world pass us by. But that plan to go on vacation requires commitment and preparations.
Our plan to be debt free is ever evolving and becoming a closer reality instead of a distant dream. But it is a process.
My plan to take over the world. Well it is a hard plan. I am not yet dressed for it. My hair is not combed today. Taking over the world requires a carefully designed set of skills and I am working on that! So watch out!!
The point is, and my neighbor reminded me, to stop wishing for things and decide how you can make those small steps to get them. Move to another country, learn to dance the salsa, appreciate fine wine and chocolates while in Paris, teach a class, run a marathon... put a plan in place to make it work. And like Forest Gump, just keep running until you get there. I know I am!
