Ready all ready
We are just past spring break, as it were. Rejoicing in the slightly warmer days. Counting down the days we have left until the last day of school. Looking forward to more days of great weather and relaxed schedules with my family but we are not there yet.
Knowing the pool membership is paid for and the resort booked for Florida makes me long for the long hot days that are soon to be here!
It is this time of year that I wait impatiently for all winter. The days are longer, the night sounds are louder and the clothing is skimpier. I wait for the people to come out side again. I wait for the windows to be open and the happy sounds of laughter to be heard. I wait for the floor to be dirty because our feet have been in the garden and there is no time to clean because we are heading outside again. This time arrives almost when I forgot what it was and what it felt like. I missed it.
It is this time when moments happen and memories are made. When families and friends meet. Summer is when we make new friends and remember to reach out to the old ones. When we pick up the phone and invite people over or out. When we tell them we are heading their way and could they spare some time to see us. When we spontaneously text and say we are doing something cool or average ~ join us. When we sit on the front step and chat with the neighbors passing by or share a story across the street. When we lounge about and soak up the human connection as much as we soak up the rays of sun.
I realize today that I miss these moments. As I sat huddled in my house, the cocoon of isolation, all winter, I forgot how important the moments are. That human connection. We have so much less of it in the winter. And now as the warm sun touches me I yearn for that contact, that connection with people. To feel, even for a few short months, like we all belong here together.
I am excited to exchange stories and make those moments. Excited to share a cold drink on a hot night. Looking forward to pulling weeds in my garden or someone else's because we are standing there and what better thing to do. Ready to stroll about in a sun dress with my toes painted and my sunglasses on. To send random "happy" postcards to far away pals because the picture or the thought was right there of a time we were together.
Maybe we all look forward to these moments of human connection. Maybe it is what we wait all winter for. I for one am ready all ready!!
