New Year... new goals
It’s a new year. 2019 came at me like a solid brick wall. Or maybe 2018 ended for me with slap to the face. Or maybe they just combined into a regular old day. Any way you shake it I was sick. In bed sick. Unable to toast in the year with my husband. Unable to snuggle my child and light a sparkler (I did not even get the energy to buy the sparkler). So I ended my year and started my year ugly sick.
Last year my “goal” was to adjust us to life in Oklahoma. Find a way for us to fit in and belong here. I wanted to get my house and studio in order. I wanted some success in my business and I wanted some peace in my family. I would say I met those goals. I had time while sick in the bed to contemplate what my next adventure will be.
So welcome 2019. A new year full of 365 days for new memories and adventures. A year to try new things, revisit old things and brush off the things we have but don’t use. I don’t need to set unrealistic resolutions, or lofty unreachable goals. But I realize I am a planner and a goal setter and I work best if I throw out a plan and attempt it. I may need to adjust as I go but I will find more success if I start with a goal.
So my goals this year....
1. Mug Monday... I am inspired by other potters to create one challenging item once a week. For me that happens to be mugs. I hate them. So this year I aim to make a mug once a week and post a picture of it on Monday. I want to carve on them, decorate them, glaze them in hard ways. 52 mugs. In line with making mugs I have some studio goals that will be challenging and time sensitive but I imagine really fun!! Stay tuned for that....
2. Web Wednesday.... I have long considered social media a total time suck. It is. And I have become hyper critical of my child being on a gadget yet find myself sitting next to him as he is banned from a device surfing on mine. I am concerned enough about his future of learning on devices that I am giving up some of my “screen time”. In order to be an example, I need to put it down. And so I am going to drastically reduce my social media engagement. Nope not deleting. And yes you will still see me stalking you. And of course online is the best way for my business to keep engaged and to explore areas for participation so you will see amazing pictures of pottery. But I am determined to drastically reduce my time uselessly surfing the web. Instead of being constantly attached to a social agenda, I will get back to blogging and managing my website on Wednesdays! I expect there will be many positives from this drastic and extremely hard challenge. Only time will tell. *today is January 2 and I have been on facebook 5 minutes in 48 hours. Pretty stellar so far!
3. Probably like most of the world I want to be healthy. Rolling up my last goal into a healthy fun habit goal I want to commit to exercising with my dogs by exploring new areas. I expect this will be the most challenging of the goals. Because well it will be the easiest to postpone, block and skip. But there must be excellent places to hike and explore with 2 giant dogs and a child. I intend to make it happen.... keep me on it :).
4. The easiest and happiest of goals.... FAMILY. I am committed to making this year one of exploration, adventure and memories. To try new foods and see new places. To make new friends and share new ideas. 365 opportunities to make new memories!!!
So HAPPY NEW YEAR! These are my top 4 goals for the upcoming year. I hope you had a moment of quiet comtemplation to think about where you want to be next year. The steps to getting where you want to be are not easy
. But if you want it.. work for it. And even if you are totally derailed... keep at it.
